Lorain High School Cafetria
The Alumni Association, which started in 2017, announced the first round of honorees from Admiral King High, Lorain High, Southview High, Lorain Catholic High and St. Mary’s High schools.
The recipients were honored at an awards breakfast June 23 at the cafeteria of Lorain High.
Welcome to the Lorain Alumni Association, an association created to recognize the achieve-ments of The graduates of Lorain's high schools. This association is open to all gradu-ates of any of Lorain's high schools including the current and former Lorain High School, Admiral King High School, Southview High School, St. Mary's High School and last but not least Lorain Catholic High School.
The formation of this association is long overdue and we plan to make up for the lost time. In the future you can expect to receive a news letter at least twice a year detailing current activities of Lorain's only high school including educational achieve-ments as well as sports activities. More importantly you will be kept abreast of the notable activities and achievements of your fellow alumni. To that end we ask that anytime you or someone you know graduated from one of Lorain's great high schools, have achieved some noteworthy accomplishment that you let us know so that we can share their success with everyone. Our goal is to demonstrate that Lo-rain's high schools have produced some awesome people who have noteworthy ac-complishments in sports, business, education, the military and the professions.
We all know or have heard about Admiral Ernest J. King, fleet commander of the U.S Navy during World War II, Toni Morrison writer and poet and winner of the No-bel Prize for Literature and General Johnnie Wilson, the first African American to achieve the rank of Four Star General in the U.S Army. We know them because they have received national attention and we have schools named in their honor. But did you know that Jose Gonzalez, a Southview graduate was the chief designer of the C-6 Chevrolet Corvette? Did you know that Don Novello a Lorain High graduate was the famous chain smoking, Father Guido Sarducci of Saturday Night Live fame? Did you know that the Henderson Avenue Bridge that crosses the Black River was named in honor of Lofton R. Henderson the first Marine Aviator who was killed in action in the Battle of Midway during World War II?
These and many, many more Lorain graduates have gone on to accomplish great things. They were your classmates, your fellow alumni. In coming editions we will tell you about your fellow alumni and we want to hear from you so that we can be sure to give proper recognition to the great men and women who walked the halls of our high schools over the years. We are proud Lorainites and we have good reason for that pride.
